Barnes Wallis Academy

At Barnes Wallis Academy we aim to provide each and every one of our students with the guidance and support they need to excel.

Enrichment

As a village based school, community links are very important to us and help us to enhance our enrichment schedule.

For a number of years students have helped to provide meals at the luncheon club for elderly people.

Our links with the community continue to grow. In recent years, the school choir has been asked to sing Christmas Carols at the local old peoples home. We also work closely with the local Rotary Club and value their support in assisting us with our charity work and providing extra-curricular activities for our students.

The school has a positive attitude to links with industry and we currently work with Moy Park who assist with our careers offering.

The International School Award

We have held the full International School Award from the British Council since 2010.

Barnes Wallis Academy creates and expands opportunities for pupils and staff through its international work within the global citizenship themes of:

  • conflict and peace
  • sustainable living
  • rights and responsibilities
  • fairness and equality
  • identity and belonging

Our international work has given us the opportunity to develop, improve and learn from new colleagues around the world. For our students, it provides a window into different cultures and countries, preparing them for life in a global society. It promotes positive global attitudes, encourages an appreciation of diversity and promotes global citizenship

What sort of skills does enrichment teach?

  • Determination to succeed
  • Teamwork
  • Winning and losing with grace
  • Respect for others
  • Tolerance
  • Confidence in yourself
  • A sense of fun and enjoyment
  • Creativity
  • Focus and attitude
  • Health benefits

Academies across the Trust are encouraged to work collaboratively to make the most of the opportunities on offer and Barnes Wallis Academy regularly participates in these activities.

In addition to our own partners, the Trust has partnerships with a number of organisations that work with us to provide opportunities in music, drama, art and other cultural pursuits.

Here are just some of the incredible enrichment opportunities we have to offer:

  • Residential trips to Paris and Poland
  • Interact Club fundraising activities for local and international projects
